Some of you readers might be wondering about my latest post with Sadhguru and I’d like to share with you about my recent experience completing the Inner Engineering course by the Isha Foundation. It’s hard to find the words to express my gratitude for this course. But as a budding writer I’ll try!
I’ve done other yoga classes in the US, but they were mostly focused on physical fitness and shied away from any deeper look into spirituality. For several years I’ve been eagerly devouring spiritual literature and watching videos. It all started with Osho; in fact, that is how I even ended up marrying my husband, because I would copy down passages that I was reading and we’d discuss them over email. More recently, I have been reading stuff by Eckhart Tolle and participated in Oprah’s ‘A New Earth’ webcast.
I came to India full of idealism and hope that I could help some people in this country. But instead, I just got bogged down with fear and anger over being here. Although I loved India’s spiritual contributions to the world, I just felt things to be too threateningly different in other aspects of culture and life. Needless to say, the stress of finding myself here was too much to handle at times, and it was a really rough period. Eventually we moved (from Bangalore to Jaipur), but I was still having difficulties, especially with my health–whether it was the water or the food, I had been having frequent stomach problems.
This is all to say that I have had my fair share of self-inflicted suffering, and was really ready for something to shake me out of it, which the inner engineering course did. Even though not much of the information was particularly new to me, the experience was. I think it was the combination of the kriyas with the satsang that did it for me. Because no matter how much I read or heard about awareness, it was still a challenge to execute. Somehow I feel like I’ve taken a leap and it’s amazing to me that a simple combination of exercises could have achieved such a result. I’m grateful to have learned what I did, because continue to feel the benefits even after doing my practice: I have more energy, I’m calmer and just generally more joyous. I start smiling for no reason, the bliss just starts bubbling forth and I feel so alive.
I find myself hankering for more, so I’m excited to go to the yoga centre for some advanced courses: the Bhava Spandana program, Shoonya initiation and Hata yoga course. Let’s see what may happen…
