India’s National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) revised its estimate of the number of Indians infected with HIV from 5.2m to 2.5m. But look at West Bengal, where only 0.3% of people are HIV positive, but over 6% of the state’s prostitutes. Most money given by donors will go to prevention and not relatively for treating Indians who already have AIDS, leaving women as the traditional caregivers for this lot. Click here.
