This popular movie centred on a women’s hockey team has stirred national sentiments and ignited a new craze for hockey, none of which seem to revolve around any discussion of women’s rights in India. This seems more than just a slight omission, given the huge amount of hype and coverage that this movie is receiving. Once again an indicator of the ailing feminist discourse in the media (see my post for more on this).
News of the strength of the real team is now coming to the fore, and maybe the sport itself will experience a revival from the sparked interest (life imitating art?). I wonder how long this may last, though, given the human tendency to collective amnesia.
